The best vegetarian restaurants in Toronto

The top vegetarian restaurants in Toronto continue to get better and better. Offerings now go beyond mock meat, rice and quinoa bowls have evolved and become more widespread and now nearly everything gets paired with a cold or smoothie juice that is pressed.

Veghed

This take out counter on Dundas West serves up an ever-changing menu featuring dishes that are unique like pakora bennies or pad thai salad. This area is helmed by accomplished chef/owner Ren Mercer, who's got 20-plus years of expertise working in high-end eateries. Anticipate the unexpected.

Fresh on Eglinton

With four places across town, Fresh has created itself as Toronto's go-to for mostly-vegan offerings, including tacos, hamburgers and immense rice bowls. Smoothies are also offered by them and recently unveiled a cold-pressed juice line.

Bolt Fresh Bar

This casual takeout counter on West Queen West sells juices, smoothies, salads and grain cartons. The acai bowls certainly are a standout on the menu - they are more like an acai parfait, layered with fresh fruit, yogurt and crunchy granola.

Hogtown Vegan

Veganism do not need to be synonymous with clean eating - sometimes cravings call for greasy brunch foods, filthy plates of nachos or unchicken and waffles. This is just where this Bloordale eatery shines, and there is a lot of cocktails and beer.

Spark Fresh Bar

At first glance, Bloorcourt's Spark seems to be your average indie cafe. Along with espresso drinks you'll find-above average food options, including an entirely vegetarian roll of tacos, sandwiches, salads and grain boxes.

Grasshopper

The vegetarian restaurant on College Street serves up a broad selection of meat-free foods. Nibble on bites like chick un- love hearty entrees like banh mi chili bowls, or hamburgers, or nuggets.

The Goods

What began as an office lunch delivery service has become a retail storefront on Dundas West, where you'll find soups and salad boxes, vibrant grain, and smoothies jampacked with superfoods.

Urban Herbivore

Plant-based salads and sandwiches are among the specialties at this lunch counter with places in the Eaton Centre food court and also Kensington Market. Additionally find creamy pureed soups, pressed juices, and fresh baked goods.

Live Organic Food Bar (Dupont)

The first all-natural and raw eatery on Dupont at Bathurst is so popular it sprouted a satellite location in Liberty Village, in addition to a line of grocery store products. Menu standouts include mung bean pancakes and manicotti stuffed with cashew dill 'ricotta".

Hibiscus Cafe

The Kensington Market stalwart is a family managed and owned cafe best known for gluten-free, organic vegetarian cuisine. The menu boasts crowd pleasers like buckwheat crepes, soups, salads and vegan ice creams.
